THOMASVILLE — Southwest Georgia Technical College’s (SWGTC) Surgical Technology Program held its pinning ceremony on May 1, marking the program completion of four students. Cheyenne DeMott of Moultrie, Ryan Allen, Allison Timms of Monticello, and Olga Sanchez of Moultrie were all pinned in the ceremony and are set to walk in SWGTC’s graduation ceremony on June 5.

Stephanie Pierce, SWGTC Surgical Technology Program director, said, “I would like to express my great respect  to these four students for completing the program, as well as my heartfelt congratulations on their success. I would also like to thank their families and other loved-ones for the tremendous support they have extended up until this memorable moment. I sincerely hope my students will remember in the future that they were once students, and please proudly teach and instruct others about this great profession. Don’t forget your roots, but please do not stop here; each of you has the potential for greatness. It has been a great pleasure being your instructor for the past year, and I wish you good luck on your future endeavors.”

Dr. Courtney Houston, plastic surgeon with Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center, was the guest speaker at the ceremony. Houston, spoke about the important role that surgical technologists play in the operating room, and how surgeons could not function without their services. He also included stories about working with these graduates, and how he enjoyed watching them blossom into great techs.
