Cynergy Farms named Conservationist of the Year

Staff report

— The Middle South Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors and its cooperating banks held their Annual Conservationist of the Year banquet at the Agrirama Conference Center on Nov. 1.

Cynergy Farms is this year’s Conservationist of the Year for Thomas County. Cynergy Farms is made up of brothers Nathan Connell and Josh Connell and their families.

After graduating from college in 1998, Josh and Nathan began their careers farming several tracts of land together. After farming together for nearly 12 years, they eventually decided to form a partnership in 2010, which became Cynergy Farms.  Some of the Connells’ conservation efforts include terraces, strip tillage, variable rate fertilization, low-pressure center pivot irrigation systems and waterways.  In addition, they have utilized diesel to electric conversion, as well as practicing forest management on pine stands.
