Senior citizen issues scam alert

THOMASVILLE — A Thomas County man knew he did not need a new Medicare card, regardless of what a man who called him said.

Jack Hanyecz said the person who called requested banking information to issue the new card.

“They had my name, my wife’s name, our address and, undoubtedly, the phone number,” Hanyecz said.

Hanyecz, who hung up, does not have caller ID.

Several of his friends received similar calls.

Hanyecz warned other senior citizens not to fall for the scam.

He has had his Medicare card for 20 years, and a new one is not needed.

“I think something is going on, and people should be aware,” Hanyecz said.
