Thomas County Central artist designs logo for local business

THOMASVILLE — It began with a quest to illustrate pain in the body. It ended with a Thomas County Central High School student’s art being selected as the logo for a local business.

Aubree Denton, 18, is the logo winner for McLean Cares, formerly known as Family Healthcare of Southwest Georgia. She was awarded a $50 gift certificate from Walmart during a presentation at TCCHS March 12.

“I thought it would be fun,” Denton said of her decision to enter the contest. “I don’t do a whole lot of realistic human drawings in class, so this is different. I was excited when I found out I won, and very happy.”

She chose “a healthy young male” as her subject. She chose a back view and drew her logo “to show all the key spots on the human body for joint pain.”

The theme was “pain management” and key words given to participants included “human body” and “neuromuscular pain.” Directions included that the logo be designed in black and white, and that it demonstrate pain in several areas of the body with a target in all the pain areas.

“I wanted to use local school talent,” Dr. Ronald McLean said of his decision to hold the contest.

McLean said what made Denton’s drawing stand out from others was her attention to detail, the definition in her rendering of pain areas in the human body.

“All the pieces were great and creative, but hers had more anatomical definition,” he said. “I think it makes it clearer for people to better understand the commonplace sites of pain in the human body.”

Five more TCCHS art students submitted drawings and each received a $10 gift card. They are Sophie Anderson, Hakeem Stevens, Jaym Densing, Taylor Collins and Lyndsae Madden.
