Staff report

THOMASVILLE — The sixth Annual Bucks for Books Adult Spelling Bee sponsored by Thomas County Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP) was held Monday. Eight teams vied for the bee trophy.

Each team gave a valiant attempt toward the goal, but Southwest Georgia Technical College’s team of Amy Scoggins, Mary Lou Vonier and Margaret Kelly took the honors with the correct spelling of “aphorism.”

Second-place winners Suzanne Moore, Tameka Thomas and Lauren Daniel represented the Thomas County Public Library System. Their team was sponsored by Thomasville National Bank.

Other teams included Cross Creek Elementary School, Hand-in-Hand Primary School, MacIntyre Park Middle School, Thomas University, Thomasville Area Society for Human Resource Management and Thomasville High School/Scholar’s Academy. One team, Garrison-Pilcher Elementary School, didn’t attend due to illness.

Judges for the event were Dr. Gary Bonvillian, Sabrina Everett, Dr. Dusty Kornegay, and Dr. Craig Wentworth.

Laura Kornegay was the announcer of the words.
