Schafer credits roots for design sensibility

THOMASVILLE — Renowned architect Gil Schafer has deep roots in Thomasville and credits this background with a large portion of his design sensibility. In his new book The Great American House, Schafer includes memories and photos from his childhood visits to Melrose Plantation in the introduction and throughout. Melrose is located five miles south of Thomasville. It’s a testament to the character of our buildings that not only would they inspire such a talented individual, but that by his work, this sensibility would touch others. The way we live, that love of comfort and beauty cohabiting, marks each of Schafer’s projects. When asked to speak at this year’s Thomasville Antiques Show, he happily agreed to help with their work of fundraising for children’s programs.
