Rotary Club of Thomasville supporting local Guard unit

THOMASVILLE — Thanksgiving and Christmas are often the most difficult times for soldiers and their loved ones.

The Rotary Club of Thomasville is partnering with local individuals, schools, clubs, organizations and businesses to make the holidays a little brighter by sending letters and care package to Thomasville’s National Guard unit, the 1230th Transportation Company.

The 1230th Transportation Company consists of 125 soldiers who were recently been deployed to northern Afghanistan.

For Thanksgiving, the Rotary Club packed and shipped six care packages consisting of snacks and other personal items to the unit. In addition, Lewis Produce provided pecans and peanuts and Blackberry Patch provided ice cream syrup so they could enjoy Thomasville products with their Thanksgiving meal. Other contributors included Kevin’s, Coffee Interiors, Publix and Thomasville United Methodist Church.

Now the club is focusing on Christmas. If any organization would like to participate or would like more information and to receive a list of items on the soldier’s wish list, contact Homer Pankey at hrp@rose.net.
