Child comes forward; more charges filed

Patti Dozier

THOMASVILLE — A child-molestation case opened earlier this month might eventually go back 25 years, a Thomas County Sheriff’s Office investigator said Wednesday.

Leon Collins, 79, 789 Dillon Road, was charged in early November with sexual battery.

The charge resulted when a 10-year-old boy visiting someone on Dillon Road said he was fondled by Collins, a next-door neighbor.

The child told authorities Collins made sexual advances toward him. A video system at the Collins residence provided evidence the child was telling the truth.

The suspect was denied bond and remains behind bars at the Thomas County Jail.
