SWGTC offering driver’s education

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — Southwest Georgia Technical College (SWGTC) will be offering a Driver’s Education course starting April 7 through its Economic Development Department. Students who complete the course will have better awareness of dangerous driving situations and learn to cope with stressful driving conditions. In addition, many insurance companies give a discount (often 10 percemt) on insurance premiums upon completion of this course.

This 36-hour course meets Georgia’s Joshua’s Law requirements and emphasizes safe driving techniques for young or inexperienced drivers. According to the law, young drivers must have successfully completed an approved certified Driver’s Education class or wait until they are 17 to obtain a driver’s license. This course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, which is designed to meet these requirements. Six optional hours of on-the-road experience can be scheduled separately for an additional $100.

All students must have a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit to participate. Space in this class is guaranteed only if paid in full. Students must complete a total of 30 classroom hours to receive certification (no exceptions). Space is limited, so register today to reserve your space. The course costs $199 or $299 with additional driving. The class will be on April 7-10 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information contact Ruby Barron at (229) 227-2579.

Southwest Georgia Technical College’s Economic Development department offers a variety of continuing education courses that include computer training, health and safety training, professional development, customized training, and personal enrichment. A wide range of short courses, workshops, and seminars are also available for professional development. However, Southwest Georgia Technical College will develop courses and workshops based upon local needs and requirements.
