Stolen city truck used in burglary try

THOMASVILLE — A pickup truck stolen from the City of Thomasville Public Works/Solid Waste Division, 923 Davenport Drive, was used to ram a Brooks County convenience store in a burglary attempt.

The white Ford F-250 was last seen at the city facility about 1 p.m. Saturday.

On Monday, Thomasville police detectives were contacted by Brooks investigators, who said the truck — with a City of Thomasville logo on the side — had been seen at an attempted burglary at a U.S. 84 convenience store in Dixie.

“According to the store video, the suspect tried to use the truck to gain entry to the store,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

When the suspect, who remains unknown, was not successful in ramming the building with the tuck, he went across the highway and took a tractor from a John Deere dealership.

“He made an attempt to ram the building with the tractor to get in,” Hampton said.

Again, the suspect was not successful. Considerable damage was done to the building during the attempts.

Suddenly the truck reappeared in Thomasville. It was found Monday at a Davenport Drive business near public works/solid waste.

Police processed the recovered vehicle and are working with Brooks investigators in an attempt to identify the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact police.
