THOMASVILLE — State Rep. Amy Carter, R-Valdosta, has been appointed chairman of the House Governmental Affairs Committee for the 2013-14 legislative term.

House Speaker David Ralston also appointed Carter to serve as secretary of the budget-writing Appropriations Committee, secretary of the Higher Education Committee and a member of three additional committees: Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Education and Small Business Development and Job Creation.

Serving as secretary of the Appropriations Committee adds Carter as an ex-officio member of the Committee on Ways and Means and appoints her to all seven of the Appropriations subcommittees — Education, Health, General Government, Public Safety, Human Resources, Higher Education and Economic Development.
