William Walter Vickers
Services for William Walter Vickers, 76, of Cairo, are 3 p.m. today at Midway Baptist Church in Cairo. Officiating ministers are Rev. Jimmy Smith, Rev. DeWayne Atkinson and Rev. Tim VanLandingham. Interment is in Greenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Collie Prince, Chase Prince, Carmon Vickers, Jamie Vickers, Randall Mirick and Jeffrey Sellars. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Herring, Ralph Burgess, Hayne Henderson, Joe Rome, Randy Vick, Doyle Stewart, Wayne Maxwell and Tommy Gaston. Mr. Vickers was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Cairo, to the late Harmon and Mattie Collins Vickers. He was retired from Thomasville Sales, where he worked for 30 years. He then continued to do mechanic work at home after his retirement. Mr. Vickers attended the Baptist church. He died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Grady General Hospital. Survivors include wife, Betty Sellars Vickers (married Jan. 31, 1953); sons and daughters-in-law, James Ladon and Sandra Vickers of Spruce Pines, N.C., William Lamar and Lee Vickers of Cairo; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Ronald Ouzts of Cairo, Renee Prince of Cairo; brother, Clyde Vickers of Newnan; sisters, Ernestine Cooksey of Opelika, Ala., Wylene Frazier of Crystal River, Fla.; grandchildren, Melissa Mirick of Cairo, LaDonna Coffee of Valdosta, Collie Prince of Cairo, Jamie Vickers of Spruce Pines, Chase Prince of Cairo, Cameron Vickers of Cairo, Brooke Vickers of Cairo, and Ragan Olivia Prince of Cairo; step-grandson, Daniel Hodge of Spruce Pines; great-grandchildren, Joseph Ortiz of Hattisburg, Miss., Tyler Mirick of Cairo, Devon Coffee of Valdosta, Paige Coffee of Valdosta, Parker Madison Mirick of Cairo; and, step-great-grandchild, Drake Hodge of Spruce Pines. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Rhonda Elizabeth Ouzts Ortiz, brothers, Jessie Vickers, Willard Vickers and Wendell Vickers.
