Robert Joseph (Joey) Cox Sr.



Services for Robert Joseph (Joey) Cox Sr., 52, of Whigham, are 1 p.m. today at Whigham United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Greene will officiate and a private interment is at Woodlawn Cemetery in Whigham. Active pallbearers are Mike Cox, Jeff Cox, Robbie Palmer, John Lodge, Tommy Cassels, Ben Chason and Austin Ayala. Honorary pallbearers are members of R & R Hunting Club, friends and co-workers of BASF Englehard. Mr. Cox was born April 22, 1956, in Cairo, to the late James M. and Jane Bell Cox, who survives. He was a logistics coordinator for 20 years at BASF. Mr. Cox attended Whigham United Methodist Church. He was a 1974 graduate of Whigham High School and a graduate of Valdosta State College. His love of his children and family brought him the greatest joy in his life. He was an active outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and was very active in Rattlesnake Roundup each year. Mr. Cox died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Belinda Chesser Cox of Whigham (married Dec. 29, 1985); sons, Clint Brown of Jacksonville, Fla., and Robert Joseph Cox Jr. of Whigham; daughter, Jodi Michelle Cox of Whigham; brothers, Dr. James M. and Helen Cox of Climax, Jet and Demetrius Cox of Whigham; mother-in-law, Phyllis Cassuaex of Tallahassee, Fla.; sister-in-law, Cindy Figueroa of Tallahassee; and, nieces and nephews, Michael Cox of Valdosta, Krista Cox of Augusta, Decia Cassels of Thomasville, Jeff Cox of Whigham and Dena Ayala of Savannah. Visitation is at the church immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Whigham United Methodist Church.
