Thomas Mclane Crutchfield

Thomas Mclane Crutchfield, always “Mac” to family and friends died on Saturday, August 23, 2008, due to a drowning accident at Deer Lake in Grady County. His death was pronounced at 2:45 p.m. at Grady General Hospital after valiant attempts to resuscitate were made by Dr. Mark Hudson and Emergency Room staff, with large crowds of friends gathering in support of the grieving family. Born in Tallahassee, Fla., June 24, 1996, Mac is the beloved son of Charlie and Maggie Crutchfield and big brother to Savanah. A popular sixth grade student at Whigham Elementary School, he maintained a straight A average, getting up at 4 a.m. for swim team practice, followed by school and then attending evening Swim Team practice. The ATAC Swim Team was a big part of his amazing young life. Always a great competitor, a valuable team member and an inspiration to everyone, he swam with the Georgia Parks and Recreation Swim Team for several years and at the age of four years received third place in the State Swim Meet. He belonged to the Boy Scout Troop 16 in Tallahassee, Fla., and had qualified for the Junior National Rifle Team. He attended the First Baptist Church of Cairo where services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at 4 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Joe Allen and Pastor Johnny Moore will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Hunter Hinson, Scott Fortier, James Bowen, Jackson Brannon, Alex Dehner, Chris Norris, Shawn Erickson, Sergey Rogachev, and Terry Maul. The honorary escort will be members of the ATAC Swim Team and his classmates from Whigham Elementary School. His family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Survivors are his parents and sister, his paternal grandfather, Bo Crutchfield of Jacksonville, Fla.; maternal grandfather, Joseph Barry of Crawfordville, Fla.; paternal great-grandmother, Esther Wurst of Meigs; uncle and godfather, Drew Roberts of Tallahassee, Fla.; godmother, Donna Smiley of Denver, Colo., godmother, Meg Earnheart of Atlanta; aunt, Becky Bolles of Lloyd, Fla.; aunt, Kathy Roberts of Tallahassee, Fla., aunt, Mary Stitt of Wisconsin, and uncle, Joey Barry of Clearwater, Fla. Lester Lawrence Dollar

A graveside service with full military honors for retired Master Sgt., U.S. Army, Lester Lawrence Dollar, 70, of Wagram, N.C., are at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. He died Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte N.C. Mr. Dollar was born March 21, 1938, in Ochlochnee, a son of the late John Thomas Dollar and Loraine Coontz Dollar. Mr. Dollar served his country proudly retiring after 26 years of dedicated service in the United States Army. During his distinguished career, he served in the Vietnam War receiving many honors including the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and also the Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring, he continued working in Saudi Arabia as a civilian with private companies. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, an avid baseball fan, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Locklear Dollar; sons, Lester “Bo” L. Dollar, Jr. and wife Lisa of Southport, N.C., David Dollar of Wagram; his daughter, Phyllis Lowery and husband William of Wagram; a brother, Gary Dollar and wife Ann of Thomasville; mother-in-law, Emma Jane Carter of Wagram; sister-in-law, Verlane Locklear of Maxton; four grandchildren, Chris Lowery, Brittany Lowery, Jonathan Dollar, Chelsea Dollar; two great grandchildren, Kaylynn Lowery and Jasmine Lowery; special nieces, Michelle Connell and Wanda and his best K9 buddy, Little Man. In addition to his parents, Lester was also preceded in death by brothers, Travis, Johnny and Jimmy Dollar; and sister, Mary Beth Dollar. Sara Simmons June

Memorial services for Sara Simmons June, 66, of Thomasville were at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wendell Hollingsworth will officiate. Born Nov. 28, 1941, in Tryon, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Cleo and Mary Geneva Tilley Simmons. Mrs. June was married to Ernest June, who survives. She was retired from Bassett's Dairy. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Benjie and Tony Kirkbride of Clearwater, S.C.; five sons, Jerry Simmons, Michael Miller, John Miller, Thomas Miller, Troy Johnson all of Thomasville; nine grandchildren, Shannon Lea, Laurie Murphy, Roger Murphy Jr., Tanya Shows, Neal Nelson, Nicole Simmons, Alisha Simmons, Joshua Simmons, David Miller; four great-grandchildren, Haley Lea, Kayla Lea, Macy Lea and Summer Shows; five sisters, Dana Baisden, Cathleen Culbreth of Laundrum, S.C., Linda Majcina of Milton, Fla., Janice Daugherty and Elizabeth Ford of Tallahassee, Fla.; and one brother, Jimmy Simmons of Tallahassee. Rainwater

Oliver G. Rainwater, 91, of Union City died August 23, 2008.  Mr. Rainwater was a life long resident of Fulton County, a member of East Point First Baptist Church for 59 years, and a Mason for over 50 years. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees. Mr. Rainwater was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth S. Rainwater, son, Oliver Glen Rainwater Jr.; sister, Agnes Horton; and brothers Earl, Charles, and Henderson Rainwater. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sarah Foley Rainwater of Union City; daughter, Margaret and her husband Edwin Simmons; and grandsons, Michael (Sharon) and Eddie (Kim) Simmons. He was the proud great-granddaddy of Katie, Jeremy, Jason and Miriam Simmons, all of Thomasville. He is also survived by brothers, Julius (Gloria), Dawsie (Mary) Rainwater; sisters, Evelyn Dobbins, Odelle Guensch and Jean Grant; many nieces and nephews; and step-sons Bob (Linda) and Rick (Elaine) Foley of Fayetteville. Funeral services were at Monday, August 25, 2008 at 1 p.m., at the East Point First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Dr. J.W. Wallis officiating. Interment was in Westview Cemetery.
