Frances B. Thomas
Graveside services for Frances B. Thomas, 83, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, are at 11 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral services were held in Ogden, Utah Nov. 23, 2009. Mrs. Thomas died Nov. 18, in Ogden, Utah surrounded by her pride and joy, “her family”. She was the first of nine children born to Calvin Quinn and Eva Butler in Cairo, Ga. She married her sweetheart, Alton C. (Skeets) Thomas Jr., June 1, 1945. Together they had three daughters. She was a "southern lady" in every aspect. One of her many talents was being a marvelous cook. She will be well remembered for that and her ability to tell fascinating stories of her life in Georgia. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family. She loved people and was a friend to everyone. She worked many years as a seamstress in the sewing factories in the South. She also worked at Woolworths in both Georgia and Utah and her last employment was at McBee Systems in Ogden. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding various positions. She spent her last years at Union Gardens in Ogden where she had many dear friends. Frances is survived by two daughters, Marsha (James) Pohlman of Roy, Utah, Myrt (Steve) Hyer of South Weber, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Parrish of Albany Ga.; Gwen (Lamar) Butler of Cairo Ga.; four brothers, Norris (Laverne) Butler of Ochlocknee, Judson (Carolyn) Butler of Metcalf, Claude (Pat) Butler of Quitman, Calvin (Butch) Butler of Metcalf; and a dear sister-in-law, Jean Butler (Julian's widow) of Metcalf. She is preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Gloria Kunzler; two brothers, Julian and Leon. Friends and family may call between 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 29 at the funeral home.
