Susie Ethel

Barwick

Graveside services for Susie Ethel Barwick, 85, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Barnett's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. Barwick died Aug. 3, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Fla. She was a resident of Orange Springs, Fla. and a former 40-year resident of Pahokee. She was born on June 7, 1923, in Cairo, to Olin Jefferson and Honorene Gilliard Wimberley. She was married on March 16, 1940, to J. S. Barwick, who died on July 7, 1990. Survivors are daughters, Becky Barwick of Charlotte, N.C., Geni (Simon Train) Hastings, Susan Elliott both of Williston, Fla., Laurie (Ronnie) Hilliard of Orange Springs; son, Jeff (Carlota) Barwick of Clewiston, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Patty Barwick and Elizabeth Cohen; and her very special friends, Frank and Betty Jean Tillis of Canal Point, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, John "Dopper" Barwick Jr. who died on Aug. 22, 1995; sisters Ellen Harvey, Edna Earle Chason, Louise Morris; and her brothers Buddy and Rogers. Family visitation will be immediately before and after the service. Venessa Lawanna Griggs

Services for Venessa “Moma Ness” Lawanna Griggs, 50, of Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Aug. 8, 2008, at St. Luke CME Church where she was a member. The Rev. Anthony Choice will officiate, eulogist is the Rev. Alvin Griggs, pastor of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Havana, Fla., and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Charles Anderson, Bill Alexander, Gilbert Bryant, Charles McIntyre and Willie Jones. Mrs. Griggs died Aug. 2 at Archbold Hospital. Born Oct. 20, 1957, in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Zellene Wilson. She was married to Nathaniel McIntyre. A member of the Thomasville High School class of 1975, she was a CNA and a private duty nurse. Survivors include daughters, Cecily Forbes (Henry), Amiralce McIntyre all of Thomasville; husband, Nathaniel McIntyre of Thomasville; brother, Leonard Wilson (Nola) of Vero Beach, Fla.; granddaughter, Shaquana Gibson of Thomasville; grandson, Raymond Gibson of Thomasville; stepdaughter, Maria McIntyre of Thomasville; stepgranddaughters, Aubre’ Ona McIntyre, Ron’Dasia Graham both of Thomasville; sister-in-law, Mae Lizzie Bryant (Andrew) of Thomasville; godsisters, Sallie King (Michael), Minnie Seabrooks all of Thomasville; goddaughters, Clarice Jordan (Gregory), Tameka Anderson (Charles), Vertrice Washington, Teresa Sneed, Irene Mickens, Lashonda Rutledge, Dilene Rogers, Shereka Solomon, Lisa Williams all of Thomasville, LaTonya Washington of Douglas, Lishonder Kind (Shedrick) of Jacksonville, Fla.; godsons, Marcus Griggs, Reginald Jones, Bill Alexander (Tasha) all of Thomasville; and numerous family and friends. Lillian Lee Pearce

Services for Lillian Lee Pearce, 88, Pelham, are at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home Chapel in Pelham. The Rev. Franklin Russ will officiate and interment is in Pinecrest Memory Gardens in Pelham. Mrs. Pearce died Aug. 5 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home in Pelham. Born Jan. 4, 1920, in Cairo, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mattie Whitfield Lee. She was married to Cuy Braxton Pearce who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, member of Harmony Baptist Church, member of American Legion Post No. 144 and Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW. Survivors include sons, Virgil Pearce and wife, Georgia of Thomasville, Larry Pearce and wife, Marie of Pelham; daughter, Sandra Woods and husband, James of Jennings, Fla.; grandchildren, Timothy Pearce, Virgil Pearce Jr., Christie Bush, Fred Pollock, Mitchell Pollock, Morris Pollock, Barbara Worsham, Ricky Worsham, Gina Becton, Terri Hall; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cuy Braxton Pearce; parents, Joseph and Mattie Whitfield Lee; brothers, Walton Lee, John Henry Lee, Alton Lee, Will Lee, Monroe Lee; sisters, Pearl Butler, Pauline Hammett, Eunice Cook and Lorene Johnson.
