James Russell Strickland

THOMASVILLE — Funeral services for James Russell Strickland, 80, of Ochlocknee will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Barnett’s Creek Baptist Church.  Rev. Paul Blough will officiate services with interment to follow at Barnett’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Bobby Hutchinson, Dan Stewart, Chris White, Jimmy Brown, Chris Sellars and Max Lawler.  Mr. Strickland was born on September 11, 1933 in Moultrie to the late Miles Franklin Strickland and Bertha Swinson Strickland.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56 and went on to work as a self-employed semi-truck driver until his retirement.  On November 27, 1975 Mr. Strickland wed Mrs. Louise Strickland and their union continued until the time of his passing.  Mr. Strickland was a member of Barnett’s Creek Baptist Church and he departed this life on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his residence.  Survivors to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Louise Strickland of Ochlocknee; he leaves behind, four children and their spouses, three step-children and their spouses, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.  He was preceded in death by two children.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Barnett’s Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, December 28, 2013.  Memorials may also be made to Barnett’s Creek Baptist Church, 27 Maddox Rd., Ochlocknee, GA 31773.  Sign the Register book online at — Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home
