Evelyn Jeanette Palmer Alligood

Evelyn Jeanette Palmer Alligood, 91 of Thomasville passed away on November 27, 2013 at Golden Living Center. A graveside service was held at 11:00 amSaturday, November 30, 2013. James Guthry, the chaplain for Hospice of SWGA officiated. Born March 22, 1922 in Meigs, GA, he was a daughter of the late A.L.M. Palmer and Mattie Stanaland. On July 7, 1940 she was married to J.O. "Owen" Alligood who preceded her in death in 1984. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cairo and was a retired bookkeeper for Big Star Grocery. She loved her job, enjoyed her customers and always loved working in her yards. After retirement, she went to work with Northside & Southside Elementary Schools in Grady County as a Dignity Worker. She loved working with the children which made her feel special and needed. She loved to cook and share with family and friends. She was a cat lover and her favorite was Blackie. She was noted for helping anyone in need, particularly family members. As her health declined and she moved to Golden Living Center. Whenever someone gave her something, she was more than willing to share with everyone. She is missed and will always be loved. She is survived by a brother L.W. Palmer and a sister Margie Wilson Griffin both of Thomasville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death y 2 brothers W.L. Palmer and James Palmer and a sister Edna Palmer Surles.
