Dorothy Inez McAfee Barry

THOMASVILLE —

Graveside services for Dorothy Inez McAfee Barry, 89, of Cordele will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Zion Hope Cemetery in Crisp County.  Rev. Glenn Hobby will be officiating services.  Pallbearers will be Barry Hickey, Ken Hickey, Randy Hickey, Ray Strickland, Phillip Walker, Mickey Dooley and Marvin McAfee, Jr.  Ms. Barry was born on May 17, 1923 in Crisp Co. to the late Elzie Preston and Ethel Hobby McAfee.  During her life worked as a bookkeeper for Bob’s Candy Company and Barry Construction Company until her retirement.  She was a charter member of Radium Springs Baptist Church of Albany where she was a G.A. leader and bible school teacher for many years.  Ms. Barry also served as a den leader for Brownie’s and Boy Scouts.  She was married to the late Oris J. Barry until the time of his passing.  Ms. Barry departed this life on Monday, November 26, 2012 at her home.  Survivors to cherish her memory include her daughters Karen Hickey (Gene) and Sharen Hickey (Derwood) all of Meigs; son Rickey Barry (Alice) of Arabi; grandchildren Ken Hickey (Tina) and Randy Hickey (Bobbie) both of Meigs, Angelia Strickland (Ray) of Waycross, Barry Hickey and Jessica Walker (Phillip) all of Valdosta and Brent (Carrie) Badeaux of Dumfries, VA; great-grandchildren Sommer Hickey, Brandon Hickey and Robby Hickey all of Meigs, Zachary Strickland of Waycross, Kelsey Walker and Kailyn Walker both of Valdosta and Liam Badeaux of Dumfries, VA.  She was preceded in death by her husband Oris J. Barry; parents Elzie Preston and Ehtel Hobby McAfee; brothers S. D. McAfee, Doster P. McAfee, Marvin T. McAfee, Sr. and James Fuller McAfee; sisters Erma Marilyn McAfee and Ola Belle McAfee.  The family is meeting at 218 Swift Creek Rd., Cordele, GA (Lake Blackshear).  A formal visitation will be held following the graveside services.  Should you choose, please make contributions to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.— Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home
