Carl Austin Young

— Memorial services for Carl Austin Young, 81 of Cairo, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at his residence, 175 Long Leaf Lane, Cairo. Mr. Young passed away Jan. 24, 2013, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born June 19, 1931, in Rockhill, he was a son of the late John Henry Young and Mirla Opal Pope Young. He was married to Hazel Amy Burt Young for 60 years, who survives. Mr. Young attended school in Thomasville and was known as Austin Omey. He was a navy veteran of the Korean War and was owner of Young & Sons Body Shop. He played Bluegrass and country music. Other survivors include his four children, Karen Williams, Kenny Young, Kelly Young and Carl Michael Young all of Kissimmee, Fla.; sister, Daisy Wehe of Dallas; cousins, Jack Pope, of Thomasville, and Melvin Pope, of Tallahassee, Fla.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
