Ida Mae Stafford

THOMASVILLE — Services for Ida Mae Stafford, 92, of Thomasville, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Saint Luke CME Church. The Rev. Anthony Q. Choice, pastor, the Rev. Frederick A. Stafford, eulogist and the Rev. Jeremy Rich,  officiating and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are Drederick Duncan, Willie Jones, Timothy Duncan, Zarnard Jones, Reginald Jones and Cedrick Minor. Mrs. Stafford died June 19, 2014, at her residence. Born Nov. 29, 1921, in Leary, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Bell Jones and Elizabeth Hunt Jones. After graduating high school in Leary, Ga., she married Buford Curtis Stafford in 1949 and he preceded her in death. In 1962, after the death of her husband, Mrs. Stafford relocated to Thomasville with her four children to be closer to her family. She loved gardening and working outside one-on-one with nature. She was blessed with a green thumb for growing flowers and anything connected to horticulture. She also loved to cook and she was a great at it. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two daughters, Voncile Stafford Jones of Thomasville, Cloteria Stafford Appleby (Eddie) of Athens; two sons, Buford C. Stafford Jr., Frederick A. Stafford (Sandra) both of Thomasville; a sister, Louella Decosie; one brother, Rock Hudson “RH” both of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Reginald A. Jones, Willie E. Jones Jr. (Melissa) of Thomasville, Drederick L. Duncan (Shemeka) of Seattle, Wash., Timothy D. Duncan of Athens, Antonio Stafford (Heather) of North Carolina, LaShandra Stafford Smallwood (Roscoe), Areshia Stafford all of Thomasville; three deceased grandchildren, Dustin B. Stafford of Athens; Emmalyn and Lucian Stafford of North Carolina; 14 great-grandchildren, Aleisha Jones, Rashard Jones, Jaquaris Frazier, Omari Duncan, Iyana Duncan of Seattle, Wash., Timothy “BJ” Jones, Veronica Jones, Kambernique Jones, Shane’qa Jones, Demario Franklin, Santos Smallwood all of Thomasville, DeAundra Jones, Savannah, Cheyenne and Jade Stafford  of North Carolina; two great-great-grandchildren, Xavion Franklin, Jaquaris Frazier Jr. both of Thomasville; special niece, Dorothy Mathis of New York, N.Y.; nephews, Johnny Ross, Allen Ross both of Thomasville; and numerous other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The viewing is from 1 to 8 p.m., today and from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour Saturday with no viewing after the eulogy. The family will receive their friends after the services at 427 Tanglewood Drive. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at 2 p.m., Saturday at 427 Tanglewood Drive for the processional. — Grooms Funeral Home
