Graveside services for Mercer Lamar Chason, 83, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo. Dr. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Mr. Chason passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Glenwood Healthcare Inc., Florence, Ala. Mercer was survived by a daughter, Celeste Chason Whittle (Randy) of Florence, Ala.; and his son, Michael S. Chason of Alabaster, Ala.; one sister, Ione Grebinger of Cairo. He is preceded by his wife, Deborah Chason; three sisters, Jeanette DeVane, Luvoise Landen and Merle Bearden. Mr. Chason graduated from Clemson A & M College in 1952, commissioned as a second lieutenant and spent six months in Korea. He received his master’s in 1955, at Auburn when it was called Alabama Polytechnic Institute. In 1960, he received his agricultural PhD from the University of Missouri. He retired from TVA, and was a member at Woodmont  Baptist Church of Florence, Ala. Mercer enjoyed photography and golf.
