Arthur Eugene Jackson

THOMASVILLE — Services for Arthur Eugene Jackson, 84, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Clifford Temple CME Church. The Rev. A. Anthony Robinson, pastor, the Rev. T.C. Mitchell Jr. officiating and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons and nephews. Mr. Jackson died June 18, 2014, at his residence. Born Aug. 5, 1929, in Thomas County, Ga., he was a son of the late Gripp Jackson and Sally Massey Jackson. He was married to Elizabeth Harris  of Thomasville. He was a member of Richland Missionary Baptist Church and a lifetime farmer until his retirement in 1995. He then enjoyed maintaining his gardens in the spring and fall. He also enjoyed planting, pruning and potting flowers and enjoyed being a shade-tree mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Harris Jackson of Thomasville; son and wife, Oscar E. Jackson (Joyce) of Thomasville; daughter, Katie M. Jackson of Thomasville; sons, Larry J. Jackson, Paul D. Jackson both of Thomasville; daughters, Paula D. Jackson-Buchanan of Thomasville, Emma L. Jackson of Panama City, Fla.; sons and wives, Jackie L. Walker (Netania) of Stone Mountain, Marvin L. Walker (Roberta) of Lithonia; daughter and husband, Ellinor L. Wright (Randolph) of College Park; daughter, Tammy Harris of Thomasville; son and wife, Tony Harris (Kimberly) of Thomasville; daughter, Lisa Harris-Austin of Thomasville; sisters, Lellie M. Taylor of Delray Beach, Fla., Grippie L. Berry of Thomasville, Bessie M. Brinson of  Boston; special grandson, Stonewall Jackson of Thomasville; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by four children, Willie C. Jackson, Gloria A. Jackson, Eugene “Blue” Jackson, Annie M. Sneed and Yvonne Jackson-Ivey. The viewing is from 1 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home and 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Saturday with no viewing after the eulogy. The family will receive their friends after the services at Clifford CME Church annex. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at 10 a.m., Saturday at 220 Grady St. for the processional. — Grooms Funeral Home
