Avis Marie Baggett

THOMASVILLE — Avis Marie Baggett, 91 years old, born September 16, 1922 in Rockford, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2014 surrounded by her family.  Avis was met in Heaven by her husband Onez Baggett, father Luther Tate, mother Maysel Baggett, brothers Junior and Lester Tate, son Larry Baggett and great-grandson Dalton Ryals.  She is survived by her children, Charlie and Luise Baggett of St. George, Ginger (Avis) Woodruff of Thomasville, Donnie and Jill Baggett of Boston and Keith and Lucy Baggett of Jacksonville, Florida.  Ms. Baggett known as Maw Maw is also survived by her grandchildren, Drew and Shawna Baggett, Avis Baggett, Andrew and Kim Baggett, Carolyn Baggett, Charlie Jr. Baggett, Vernon Ryals, Michelle Patterson, Brian and Angela Ryals, Victoria and Chris Conrad, April Baggett, Joe Baggett, Chris Baggett, Autmn and John Shepard, Ashley and Westley Powell, and Branden Baggett; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.  Ms. Baggett loved spending her time cooking, playing the piano and teaching her children and grandchildren to dance.  Avis better known to her loved ones as "Sis", is a charter member of El Bethel Baptist Church, in Whigham, Georgia.  Pallbearers: Andrew Baggett, Charlie Jr. Baggett, Drew Baggett, Chris Baggett, Brian Ryals, Branden Baggett.  Honorary Pallbearers: Keith Ryals, Westley Powell, Tyler Stephenson and Justin Majors.  The viewing will be held at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home, Thursday, January 23, 2014 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Service will be held at El Bethel Baptist Church in Whigham, Georgia on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, Georgia.  More than anything Mrs. Baggett’s love for Jesus and her family were the greatest of all.  Sign the Register book online at — Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home
