Etta Christine Hamilton Lawson

Services for Etta Christine Hamilton Lawson, 83, of Thomasville will be on at Pinecrest Memory Gardens in Moultrie on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. Lawson was born August 25, 1930 in Colquitt County, Ga., to the late Clyde Thomas Turner and Willie Etta Murphy Turner. She had lived most of her life in Thomas County. She moved to Crawfordville, Fla., for several years, then returned to Thomasville, where she lived until her death. Lawson worked at Sunnyland Packing Company for many years before becoming a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith and married the late Ray Lawson on June 5, 1975. Lawson passed away on January 11, 2014, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Lawson on September 21, 2005; a son, Doyle B. Hamilton on September 11, 2001; brothers Ronald Turner and Brownie Turner; and a sister, Betty Jo Turner Holt. She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Hamilton Covington and son-in-law, Wade Covington; four grandchildren, Brandy (Jamie) Majors of Thomasville, Chase (Malina) Covington of Thomasville, Stephanie (Jim) Moody of Thomasville and Bernie (Serena) Hamilton of Thomasville. The light of her life and her greatest joy were her great grandchildren. She is known as “Grammie” to Gracie and Eli Majors of Thomasville, Kathryn Covington of Kuna, Idaho; Skylar Covington, Thomas Moore, Mahayla Moore, all of Thomasville; Ian and Reagan Moody of Thomasville and Payton (Ashley) Towns of Thomasville; sister Barbara Hobbs of Jacksonville, Fla., special nieces and nephews; and her four-legged friend and companion “Roxie,” whom she spent many mornings and evenings with talks and companionship. Lawson was a great cook and enjoyed sharing her cakes with all her family and friends. She was always thinking of others and was loved by so many. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home on Sunday, January 12, 2014. — Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home
