Ethel Harrison Collins

THOMASVILLE —

Services for Ethel Harrison Collins, 96, of Whigham, GA, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church, Calvary, GA.  Rev. John Vanstone will officiate.  Interment will be in the Harrison Family Cemetery, Whigham, GA.  Mrs. Collins passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville, GA.  Active pallbearers will be E.C. "Buddy" Harrison, Tom Harrison, Mike Moss, Dennis Nuehring, Mark Collins, and Brad Collins.  Mrs. Collins was born on March 2, 1916, in Calvary, GA, to the late Charlie M. Harrison and Nancy Jones Harrison.  She married Vernon Collins who preceded her in death on January 30, 1977.  She was a retired teacher’s assistant with the Grady County Board of Education and was a member of the Calvary Garden Club.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Calvary, GA.  She was always among the first responders when there was a sickness or death in the community. She loved to keep her yard and flower beds manicured and did so well into her late eighties. In her mid-eighties she told her son that she thought she needed a mower with more horsepower.  Survivors include: daughter, Betty C. Odom of Tallahassee, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Judy Collins of Whigham, GA; grandchildren and spouses, Dr. David Odom of Auburn, AL, Brad Collins of Tulsa, OK,  Lisa and Bobby Kent of Niceville, FL, Mark and Amy Collins of Pawleys Island, SC, Tamra Lang of Pearland, TX, Toni and Bill Peiffer of Raleigh, NC; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Inez Moss of Ellenwood, GA.  Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Nancy Harrison; her husband, Vernon Collins; her son-in-law, Conrad Odom; her grandson, Mark Odom; and a brother, Hadley Harrison.  In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 180, Calvary, GA  39829.  The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the funeral service.  Guests may sign the online register at www.clarkfuneral.com. — Clark Funeral Home
