Robert W. Miller

— Robert W. Miller, age 85, of Cairo, Georgia, former owner of Miller Funeral Home/Heritage Funeral Home, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013. He provided funeral service for the residents of Cairo for over 40 years. Mr. Miller was born in Tallapoosa, GA April 2, 1926 to the late Robert Judson and Mabel McKissick Miller. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.  A graduate of Gupton-Jones School of Embalming in Nashville, TN and has been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1948. A charter member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers and former member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association, Mr. Miller was very active in local civic and veterans groups. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cairo, where he was past Kiwanian of the Year, and a member of American Legion Post 122. He held Emeritus Mason position in the Cairo Lodge # 299. Mr. Miller worked and served with the Shriners and other Masonic bodies for over 50 years. Mr. Miller was a charter and very active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Walls Miller, and sons, Robert W (Bill) Miller, Jr. of Bremen, GA and  Albert Cordell of Donalsonville, GA; granddaughters Christa Strickland and husband Michael, Mary Touchton and husband Spence all of Donalsonville; great-grandchildren, Jessica Courson of Fernandina , FL Haley Love and Kaden Touchton of Donalsonville; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral  services will be held at 10 am Friday  at Tabernacle Church in Cairo with Rev. Miles Carter officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Horace Baggett, Willard Britt, John Corley, Alan Saul, Steve Walden, Bill Cooper and Raiford Crawford Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery in Tallapoosa, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Hubert O. Miller and wife Carolyn, Sisters Elizabeth Marcinko and husband, Louis, Ruth Williams and husband John, and a great grandson Jared Courson. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cairo.
