Frances Mitchell


Funeral services for Frances Mitchell, 83, of Thomasville will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  Rev. James Thompson, Pastor, with Rev. James Herbert, Rev. Kassalando Brooks and Rev. Leon Jones officiating services.  Interment will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Metcalfe, GA.  Active pallbearers will be Deacons Frank Delaney, Bernard Davis, Sr., Leroy Hudson, Robert Johnson, Eustace Cromartie and Kenneth Wright.  Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons Carl Davis, Willie Mitchell, Kenneth Wright and Bernard Davis,. Sr.  Mrs. Mitchell was born on December 7, 1929 in Metcalfe to the late Ira Mitchell and Francis Powell.  She was a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a former member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church and a graduate of Douglass High School.  She was also a Deaconess, President of the Missionary Board, choir member, Adult Sunday School teacher and Mother of the Church at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  Ms. Mitchell would wed Mr. Lewis Mitchell, Sr. in Thomas County on August 9, 1951 and their union would continue until the time of his passing on November 22, 1992.  During her life Ms. Mitchell worked as a Chef/Head Cook.  She was a lifelong resident of Thomas County and she departed this life on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.  Survivors to cherish her memory include her daughter of Constance Glasper (Donald) of Tallahassee, FL; daughter-in-law Rosetta Mitchell of Thomasville; son Alvin Q. Mitchell (Gwendolyn) of Melbourne, FL; grandsons Demetrius Mitchell (Telisha) and Rashawn Mitchell (Janet) both of Thomasville; Stephen Mitchell (Ausa) of Japan and Quinton Mitchell of Tyndall Air Force Base, FL; granddaughters Terelica L. Davis of Alpharetta and April Glasper of Tallahassee, FL; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her son Lewis Mitchell, Jr.; parents Ira Mitchell and Francis Powell.  A public viewing will be held from 12 Noon until 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the funeral home.  The remains will lie instate on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour with no viewing following the eulogy. — Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home
