Lewis Christopher Tyus Sr.

Services for Lewis Christopher Tyus, Sr., 82, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Long Branch Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Paul Wade, Rev. Keith Parks, Rev. Tim VanLandingham, and Rev. Matt Peek will officiate.  Interment will be in Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Tyus passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, GA, on Sunday, October 28, 2012.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Wesley C. Tyus, Stephen M. Tyus, Brandt Sims, Bobby Cutts, Matt Peek and Seth Peavy.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Win More Sunday School Class.  Mr. Tyus was born on April 21, 1930, in Cairo, GA, to the late Lewis Guin Tyus and Luva Mae Miller Tyus.  He was raised in Grady County.  On September 23, 1951, he married Brunell Kinchen Tyus, who survives.  He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Farmer’s Home Administration having served as a District Director.  After his retirement he returned to the family farm where he again took up farming.  Mr. Tyus was one of the last syrup makers in Grady County.  He graduated from Cairo High School in 1947, and the University of Georgia in 1951, with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.  He was an active member of Long Branch Baptist Church and was a Deacon.  He was a teacher for the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class; a member of the church choir and served as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.  He was a member of Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy.  Survivors include:  his wife, Brunell K. Tyus of Cairo, GA; children and spouses, Lewis Christopher Tyus, Jr. (Chris) of Shellman, GA, Susan Tyus Denson (Steve) of Moultrie, GA, Benjamin H. Tyus (Fay) of Cochran, GA, Stephen Guin Tyus (Cindy) of Moultire, GA; grandchildren and spouses, Wesley and Lane Tyus of Hamilton, GA, Amy Tyus of Columbus, GA, Alicia and Brandt Sims of Moultrie, GA, Anna and Bobby Cutts of Moultrie, GA, Elizabeth Tyus (fiancé, Seth Peavy) and Emily Tyus, both of Cochran, GA, Leigh Anna and Matt Peek, Stephen Tyus and Julie Tyus all of Moultrie, GA; great-grandchildren, Cam and Cade Tyus of Hamilton, GA, Harrison and Noah Sims, Parker Cutts and Maddie Claire Peek all of Moultrie, GA; sister, Annie Tyus Parks of Cairo, GA.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Margaret Tyus; brother-in-law, Rev. Lester Parks.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Tim L. Young

Graveside services for Tim L. Young, 57, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo GA.  Rev. Arnold Buckner will officiate.  Mr. Young passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012, in Cairo, Georgia.   Active pallbearers will be Donnie Monk, Tim Monk, Wade Robertson, Mark Robertson, Van Dowdy and Steven Hurst.  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Adams, William Powell, and Dewayne Palmer.  Mr. Young was born in Cairo, GA, on August 25, 1955, to the late Clarence Hurst and Maudine Young.  He was a millwright with Industrial Boilers.  He was of the Baptist faith.  He is survived by: wife, Betty Young of Cairo, GA;  son, Johnny Young of Cairo, GA; daughters, Rachel Hurst of Cairo, GA, Sherry Hurst of Jacksonville, FL; stepson, DeWayne Palmer of Cairo, GA, Donald Wimer of Swainsboro, GA; stepdaughter, Carol Hopkins of Dalton, GA, Sabrina Cowart of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Niki Hurst, Stacey L. Cowart, Ashley Cowart, Tina M. Cowart, Katie Griffin, Josh Griffin, Kristina Sanders, Toby Sellers, Steven Hurst, Tia Miller, Shane Holmes, Tracy Wimer, all of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Phillip Hurst, Charles Hurst, Braylon Hurst, Katelynn Hunt, Dakota Cowart, Ashton Cowart, Taylor Cowart, Karoline Barrett, Kyra Sanders, Kailyn Miller, all of Cairo, GA; and a lot of good friends that were his family also.  He was preceded in death by: his parents; a stepson, Terry Hurst; brother, Lynn Hurst; mother-in-law, Ila Sadler; and a great-grandson, Evan Cowart.  Guests may sign the online register at — Clark Funeral Home
