William Carter Jr.


William “Pookie” Carter, Jr. was born in Thomas County on August 9, 1977 to Gloria Isabell Williams and the late William Carter, Sr. in Thomasville, GA.  William was a kind and gentle soul that hated no one.  He always tried to see the good in everyone.  William  joined the church at an early age and confessed his life to Christ.  William “Pookie” Carter loved life and he loved God.  He made his daily calls to family because family was his main concern.  Pookie lived his life the way he wanted, regardless of what others thought.  The blessed soul of our beloved William “Pookie” Carter, Jr. slipped away in the hands of our Master on Saturday, February 16, 2013.  William was preceded in death by his father, William Carter, Sr., a sister, Lakesha Hanks, a grandfather, Neal Carter, Sr., and a grandmother, Luabertha Elmas, two uncles Eddie Roy Elmas, Decaster “Sonny” Gatlin, and Wilmer Griffin.  He leaves precious memories with his mother, Gloria Isabell Williams; a sister, Yashica Godbolt; 2 brothers:  Danny Williams and Stephon Williams; a grandmother, Mattie P. Carter, a great-grandmother, Bessie Anderson; a stepmother, Mary Swain; 6 nieces:  Ericka Long, Sharicka Long, DaiiQuon Hanks, Essence Johnson, Treasure Godbolt, and Quan Williams; 5 nephews:  Lavaughn Whigham, Jr., Travis Godbolt, Jr., Stephon Williams, Jr., Dayshawn Williams, and Timothy Williams; 1 great-niece, Janaya Godbolt, 2 great-nephews Jordon Johnson and Legend Lee; 7 aunts:  Annie Gooding, Bettye (Jerome) Jackson, Rachel (Ronzo) Proctor, Earnestine (Earnest) West, Katie Carter, Bertha Elmas, and Deborah Carter; 7 uncles:  Johnny Wilson, Neal (Martha) Carter, Jr., Robert (Linda) Carter, Barnard Carter, Sr., John Carter, Sr., Tommy Joe Knight; a host of living aunts, uncles, and cousins; special friends, Jonathan Wright, Travis Smith, Shonda Harrison and Vincent Wright.  Pookie Loved all of his family and he will be greatly missed.  Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 12 Noon from St. James Primitive Baptist Church, 110 Forrest St..  Rev. Joseph Andrews, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery.  Family and friends are asked to assemble at 105 Burns St., Thomasville, for the processional at 11:00 a.m.  Viewing will be held 12 Noon until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. — Hadley’s Funeral Home
