Joyce Muggridge Pickens

THOMASVILLE — Services for Joyce Muggridge Pickens, 93, of Thomasville, Ga., are at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, Cairo, Ga. The Rev. Rick Turner will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Interment is in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, Ga.  Mrs. Pickens passed away at Camellia Gardens of Life Care, Thomasville, Ga., on Saturday, April 26. Born on April 1, 1921, in Cairo, she was the daughter of the late Charlie R. Muggridge and Eula Lewis Muggridge.  On Dec. 7, 1940, she married Marvin E. Hayes, who preceded her in death.  On April 15, 1966, she married Frank Leslie Pickens Jr., who preceded her in death.  She was a retired telephone operator with Southern Bell and a member of The Telephone Pioneers. Joyce was an avid bowler, cook and gardener who loved growing flowers. She was also a world class traveler. Joyce loved her two dogs Lady and Lucy like they were her children. She was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her brother, Wh Muggridge of Macon; brother-in-law, Walter Pickens (Mary) of Stone Mountain; nieces, Betty Hutcheson of Macon, Janice Thompson of Tennessee, Margaret Barrett of Bainbridge, Patricia Scobie of California, Gaye Smith of Florida, Kathy Mullis of Macon, Beth McDuffie of Las Vegas, Nev., Cheryl Bulloch of Pelham, Lois Ellen Elrod of Pelham, Karen Mills of Climax, Carol Rozier of Thomasville Lynn Locks of Atlanta; nephews, Bobby Muggridge of St. Simons, Lawson Muggridge of Cairo, Walter McDuffie of Enterprise, Ala., Mike Muggridge of Milledgeville, Rick Muggridge of Leesburg, Walter Pickens Jr. of Atlanta, John Day of Alabama; life-long friend, Paige Staley of Melbourne, Fla.  The family wishes to express appreciation for the special care that was extended to Mrs. Pickens by Dr. Mark Brewer and his staff; the staff of Camellia Gardens and caregivers, Kimberly and Sharrell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Marvin E. Hayes, Frank Leslie Pickens Jr.; sisters, Mary McDuffie, Merle Moore; brothers, Ralph Muggridge, Elmer Muggridge, Bill Muggridge, and Harry Muggridge.
