James ‘Woody’ Scott

James "Woody" Scott was a strong warrior who fought and won many battles here on earth. On Feb. 14, 2013, he fought and won his last earthly battle with honor. He left this earth to continue his walk with Jesus. He was a witness of God's love through his unique personality. With every role God gave him in life, he pursued it with excellence. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had a playful, loving spirit that drew people to him. If he ever met a stranger, he soon turned them into friends. He reached out to the world and embraced life's every moment. He cherished God's beauty in nature and drew life and understanding from its teachings. Scott was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Quitman, to James Leo and Louvenia King Scott. He married his high school sweetheart, Gail Groover on Feb. 7, 1962. He and Gail enjoyed celebrating their 51st anniversary on Feb. 7, 2013, with family and friends at their home in Ochlocknee. Roy Groover (Wendy); grandchildren, Caleb and Peyton Wilson, Haley and Lillianna Hutto, Tosha and Alex Nelms; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Leo Scott; brothers, Larry and Clifford Scott’ and sister, Robbie Green. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, Feb.17, 2013, at 3 p.m., at New Covenant Church in Thomasville, where he was a member. Pastor David Allen will officiate. Active pallbearers will include Caleb Wilson, Peyton Wilson, Darrell Davis, Roy Groover, Fred Murphy, and Charles Anderson. Burial will follow in Ochlocknee City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb.16, 2013, at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Building Fund at New Covenant Church, 48 Patterson Still Spur East, Thomasville, GA 31757.
