Rant and rave 02/28/14

THOMASVILLE — “Randy, it's not just common courtesy, it's communication skills that are lacking. Words, both written and spoken are cheapened, so coarse language and behavior has filled the void. Most often, using some device, rather than face-to-face. A story about Lincoln is told of a meeting with an opposition leader. The conversation was tense, but voices were not raised. Afterwards, his secretary remarked at the man's demeanor. Lincoln said he was an honorable man, and while he disagreed with every word, he just didn't like his face. 'I don't like that man. I must get to know him better.' He had apparently let his anger with Lincoln show. If you've not been taught to speak, let alone write, what else do you have?”

“Contrary to the politically correct society we find ourselves in, there is no right to not be offended. There are consequences to free speech, and since our founders moved their discussions of rebellion from place to place out of fear, they understood this. Have we returned to that kind of environment, where even the press sees fit to change our words, and patriots fear retribution from an authoritarian, lawless government? The benefits of alternate views far outweigh the dangers. To silence opposition is fine, until the shoe is on the other foot.”

“Mr. Traditional Republican, are the morals you are talking about abortion and gay marriage? If so then they are God's morals and not some I made up. Anyone claiming to be a Christian that supports politicians and others who support these things are only fooling themselves if they think that one day they will not have to answer to God as to why they turned their back on his word.”
