Errors plague THS in defeat

THOMASVILLE — Hits were hard to come by Tuesday for Thomasville. Unfortunately, errors continued to find the Bulldogs.

Thomasville committed nine errors in its home opener against Tift County, as the Blue Devils capitalized, winning 12-2.

“That’s the story of our season so far,” said Thomasville head coach Erik McDougald. “When we make a mistake, we make another mistake, then another mistake behind that.”

The Bulldogs were errorless through the first two innings before one in the third and five in the fourth that blew open a close game.

The game was knotted up 1-1, before error after error eventually led to a six-run inning.

“When we make errors, we make a bunch of errors,” said McDougald. “It really makes it tough on pitchers to continually make out-pitches.”

Pitcher Duncan Wilder allowed only two hits in the inning but committed a costly error himself, trying to pick off a runner at third, he overthrew Tanner Moore, leading to a pair of runs scoring.

Moore started the game on the mound, striking out two in two scoreless innings.

Harrison Gantt pitched the final two innings for the Bulldogs.

Offensively, the Bulldogs managed just three hits off pitcher Austin Smith. The Bulldogs’ first run came in the third inning on a bases loaded walk to Moore. Antonio Thomas scored the other in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch.

Smith struck out nine in the complete game victory.
