Tucker accomplishes rare feat
By Clint Thompson
THOMASVILLE — Seth Tucker accomplished a rare feat to end his collegiate career.
The LaGrange senior and former Brookwood standout played all nine positions in the Panthers’ regular season finale against Atlanta Christian.
“It was a lot of fun,” Tucker said. “I was nervous about catching and pitching because it had been a while. It was a lot of fun. It doesn’t really happen very often.
“(Coach) said something to me and another one of the guys about it last year,” said Tucker, who was joined in the feat in the same game by Michael Sims. “He picked it out at the beginning of the year. We kind of thought he might not do it but he held to it.”
LaGrange coach Kevin Howard added: “It was a lot of fun. A lot of big moments for Seth in that game.”
Tucker started the game in center field and rotated around the diamond every inning. Ironically, Tucker’s two toughest positions, pitcher and catcher, he manned in the eighth and ninth innings. Adding to the drama was that LaGrange won the game 8-7.
“That was pretty nerve-wracking,” said Tucker, referring to playing catcher in the final inning.
The versatile Tucker finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. In his one inning on the mound, Tucker allowed one unearned run, two walks and one strikeout.
“He’s just had a fabulous career and is just a wonderful person here at LaGrange College,” Howard said. “He has done so much with the baseball program, just a versatile athlete.”
Tucker was an all-conference performer this year after batting .339 with 31 RBIs.
