Central girls headline all-region team

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — After just missing out on Offensive Player of the Year honors as a freshman, Thomas County Central’s Taylor Benton took the next step this season.

The sophomore midfielder led a contingent of six Yellow Jackets named to the all-Region 1-AAAA first team after netting 15 goals and handing out 25 assists.

“She is an amazing soccer player with great skill and drive,” Central coach Nick Haskin said.

Other Jackets named to the first team were freshman forward Ivey Singletary (runner-up for offensive player of the year with 36 goals and 12 assists), junior midfielder Christen Terrebrood (20 assists and eight goals), sophomore center midfielder Erin Vick (16 goals and nine assists), senior defender Erin Tillman and freshman defender Alyssa Denton.

Honorable mention selections were freshman forward Meka Duncan, freshman utility player Rebekah Poehler and senior defender Kayla McGlashan.
