Pinecrest Academy ends Brookwood’s season
Staff report
CUMMING — Brookwood’s scintillating season came to an end Thursday night one game short of the GISA Class AAA championship game.
On the road in the state semifinals, Brookwood was blanked 1-0 by Pinecrest Academy.
The Warriors ended their season with a 10-2-1 record.
“The boys played well,” Brookwood coach Eric Dobrzanski said. “It was an evenly matched game. We went back and forth. We just couldn’t get one.”
Pinecrest’s goal came at the 6:20 mark in the first half. It was enough as the Warriors never could respond with a goal of their own despite several good looks.
“I think we got eight or ten good opportunities,” Dobrzanski said. “When I say good opportunities, those are really chances we should have scored on.”
Brookwood was dealt a blow in the game when starter Taylor Bragg had to leave with an injured collarbone. Despite the loss, Dobrzanski was still proud of his team’s season and the leadership his six seniors showed all year.
“You really can’t take anything away from these boys,” Dobrzanski said.
