Great South League pulls out of tourney

An All-Star-Team from the Great South League, a summer league for college players in six southern states, was supposed to compete in the World Port Invitational in Rottersam, The Netherlands, beginning today. However just a few hours before the start of the event and even after submitting a roster to the organizers, it decided to withdraw. The remaining teams now will play a triple-round-robin preliminary phase to determine the two finalists.

Thomasville Bombers Ruben Rodriguez and Drew Johnson were supposed to be on the Great South League team.

Central boosters to meet Monday

The Central Athletic Booster Club will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Thomas County Central cafeteria.

All members are urged to attend.

Hall of Fame seeking nominations

The Thomasville-Thomas County Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the class of 2009. Nominees must be at least 40 years of age.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize outstanding local athletes, coaches, officials, and people who have made major contributions to the sports tradition of Thomasville and Thomas County. Nominees should possess lifestyles which identify them as a positive role model for the youth of our community, in addition to excelling in their particular athletic environment. Nomination forms are available at the YMCA or online at www.thomasshof.org.

The deadline is July 31.
