Night Hawks’ season ends on penalty kicks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — No. 23 Thomas University gave No. 7 Auburn University at Montgomery all it could handle, but fell 7-6 in penalty kicks after being tied 3-3 through two overtime periods Saturday. The NAIA National Tournament opening-round loss ends the Night Hawks' season at 15-3-3.

TU opened the scoring early with a Lyle Gifford goal in the fourth minute. Jarrod Ingram scored his 16th goal of the year in the 18th minute, off a Rowan Liburd assist (7) to stretch the lead to 2-0. AUM stormed back in the first half, taking control of the ball and scoring two goals in the next 24 minutes to send the game to halftime tied at 2-2.

The Night Hawks took the lead again in the second half when Ingram scored his team-leading 17th goal from a Gifford assist in the 60th minute. The Warhawks evened the game five minutes later off a rebound, and the game remained tied through regulation.
