Choice shares all-region individual honor

Adam Choice and Stephen Collier are both committed to Division I schools.

And the Thomas County Central and Lee County quarterbacks are both also the All-Region 1-AAAAA coaches’ Offensive Player of the Year. Choice, who has verbally committed to play running back at Clemson, and Coller, who is pledged to play quarterback at Ohio State, each received three votes from  the coaches to split the honor.

Choice, a three-year starter at Central and the program’s all-time leading rusher, led the region in rushing through the regular season with 1,521 yards and 14 touchdowns on 191 carries. He was injured at the end of the third quarter of the regular season finale at Harris County and also missed Central’s playoff game at Richmond Hill. He also completed 31 of 57 passes for 522 yards and seven touchdowns to just one interception.

Collier, meanwhile, completed 120 of 240 passes during the regular season for  a region-leading 1,851 yards and 21 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 732 yards and 15 touchdowns on 122 carries for the Trojans, which captured the region title after a three-way tie.

Other first-team all-region selections from Central include offensive linemen Reggie Mobley, who tied at center, and tackle Sam Long, and running back Deondre Cooksey on offense. Defensively, linebacker Jarell Jones and defensive tackle Austin Parmer made the first team.

Central placed three defenders on the second team in defensive tackle Stevan Thornton, defensive end Austin Bryant and defensive back Ernest Harris. Tight end Peyton Singletary was a second-team offensive selection and Gavin Wilson was the second-team punter.

Honorable mention choices were offensive lineman Caleb Autry, running back Shaquille Coleman, defensive lineman Matthew Prather, Wilson at kicker and Malcolm McClenton at both wide receiver and all-purpose defensively.
