For the third straight year and the fourth time in five seasons, the Cairo Syrupmakers will head into region play with two losses.
Cairo coach Tom Fallaw expects his current team to match those predecessors in another department as well, a unit that continues to improve as it heads into the second portion of the season.
“We played a pretty good football team tonight, so we’ll see where we stand as we keep going,”Fallaw said Friday night after the Class AAAA No. 10 Syrupmakers fell to 1-2 with a 21-0 loss to rival Thomas County Central.
“I think our kids are going to come out and compete and get better, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.”
Cairo, which has won its past 23 region games and hasn’t lost to a current region opponent since a 19-18 setback to Monroe in 2006, looks to defend its Region 1-AAAA title beginning Friday when Crisp County visits West Thomas Stadium.
