A youthful Brookwood football team played its best at the end of the year.
It won two of its last four games and gave GISA Class AA semifinalist John Milledge Academy a competitive clash in the first round of the playoffs.
The Warriors finished 3-8 but collected wins over Terrell Academy and Sherwood Christian to notch the No. 4 playoff spot out of Region 3. A team loaded with underclassmen has given Brookwood coach Robert East reason to be optimistic about the future.
“The No. 1 thing we need to improve on is having older players,” East said. “We had a tremendous season. There were a lot of accomplishments by those guys. We had a sophomore (Taylor Patterson) go for 1,300 yards on the ground. We had a freshman (Cale Deese) who went for a little less than 600 on the ground. Our sophomore quarterback (Jake Piazza) started to find his legs there late in the season. He threw for a couple of touchdown passes.
“Basically, what we've got to do is pick up exactly where we left off and continue to improve.”
