Region coaches tab Choice offensive player of the year

THOMASVILLE — Adam Choice had a year to remember for Thomas County Central.

He left a lasting impression on Region 1-AAAAA coaches.

The junior quarterback ran for 1,658 yards and 23 touchdowns in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 9-3 record and second-place finish in the region. For his efforts, Choice was named by the region coaches as the offensive player of the year.

“He got, probably, a whole lot more tough yards this year than he had to get last year,” Central coach Bill Shaver said. “Last year he had a lot of big, long runs, like the Lee County game where he had a lot of big, long runs. This year I think he probably got some tougher yards than he had to the previous year.”

Choice was also efficient in the passing game, throwing for 600 yards and five touchdowns with only two interceptions.

The region’s top defender was Harris County defensive back Marvin James. The 6-foot, 180-pounder, recorded 117 tackles in 13 games. James’ coach Tommy Parks named coach of the year after guiding the Tigers to a 5-0 region record, region championship and a berth in the state quarterfinal round.

Central’s first-team selections on offense included juniors Reggie Mobley and Caleb Autrey on the offensive line.
