Yellow Jackets cool off Blue Devils

THOMASVILLE — With just two weeks left before the “money games” start, Thomas County Central deposited a hard-fought non-region contest into the win column Friday night.

The Region 1-AAAAA Yellow Jackets turned back the pesky Region 1-AAAAAA Tift County Blue Devils 28-21 at Thomas County Stadium. The outcome was very much in doubt until the final two minutes.

“That’s a quality football team that has improved a lot,” Central head coach Bill Shaver said. “I believe they are as good as anybody we’ve played.”

Central won four of its five non-region games, beating Thomasville (38-0), Marist (28-21), Cairo (21-) and Tifton. Its lone loss was at Valdosta (28-24).

The Yellow Jackets are off next week before opening region play at Bainbridge on Oct. 4.
