This will be Brookwood’s biggest challenge of the season.
While the Warriors opened with GISA Class AAA opponents Southland Academy and Westfield, they haven’t seen anybody with the size that SGA will bring to Warrior Field at 7:30 p.m. today.
“They’re huge up front,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “It’s easily the biggest offensive and defensive line we’ve gone against, including Westfield and Southland. There’s a couple guys that are 300+, several guys in that 250 range.”
But SGA is more than just a big team. The visiting Warriors are 5-2 and 1-0 in Region 3-AA following last week’s 63-21 demolishing of Terrell Academy. In addition to the size, SGA also has skill, especially in the backfield as Will Warren rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns last week, while Cabe Rathel added 127 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries.
“They are huge up front and then they have a great back in Warren, who is capable of being a 40-carry kind of guy,” Boggs said. “He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s really, really fast and really tough. He seems to be hard to tackle.
“Their offensive identity seems to be, they’re going to run it until you fall asleep and then they are going to play-action you.”
