THS hosting first Dean Farrell Invitational

Thomasville High School will get a rare home swim meet today.

The Bulldogs also will get the chance to honor their former coach when they host the Dean Farrell Invitational at the  Everett-Milton YMCA at 4:30 p.m.

Prior to the start of the seven-team meet will be a short dedication ceremony.

“He was the swim coach here for over 20 years and all the kids love him,” THS coach Wes Davis said. “He’s done so much for swimming here in Thomasville and we just felt it was right to dedicate this invitational to him.

“We’ve had some three-ways or six-ways here, but never an invitational and we really haven’t even had any meets at all at home lately because there are no other schools in our region.”

Joining Thomasville in the Invitational will be Thomas County Central as well as Albany, Bainbridge, Colquitt County, Dougherty and Westover.

“We feel we’ll be competitive and have a chance to win with both our boys team and our girls team,” Davis said. “Bainbridge, Colquitt County and Thomas County Central are all bringing really strong teams in here and Westover has a pretty big team, too.

“Dougherty and Albany have smaller teams, but we’re glad to have them coming in and participating.”
