FSU players instruct THS softball team

THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville Lady Bulldogs are days away from the start of fall practice.

On Wednesday, though, the softball team were treated to a clinic taught by members of the Florida State softball team.

Sarah Hamilton, Mallory Borden and Kirstin Austin, members of the Lady Seminoles, were at Thomasville High School instructing the Lady Bulldogs about the finer points of the game.

“Our girls were just excited to be a part of it,” Thomasville coach Ron O’Quinn said.

Though the inclement weather on Wednesday kept the players off the field, the team was able to move indoors and hit inside the batting cages.

“Being in here we can definitely get a lot of hitting in,” said Hamilton, a pitcher with the Lady Seminoles. “We’re just teaching a lot of the mechanics, a lot of the basics, just getting a lot of the mental side of the game down, too. When you get out on the field, you’ve got to do a lot of talking.

“Defensively, how a team is supposed to form and move together, the chemistry of the team. I work with mostly the pitchers and the catchers. I’ll be working the same thing, mechanics and pitch calling type of stuff.”
