THS tennis teams headed to Final Four

THOMASVILLE —

Thomasville’s boys and girls tennis teams are headed to the Final Four.

The Bulldogs and Lady ‘Dogs both ousted Screven on Friday to advance to the semifinals against Westminster, which marks the third straight round that both teams will take on the same school.

The Bulldogs secured a 5-0 victory with wins in every round. Johnathon Martin, Walker Harris and Nic Cordista each ousted opponents in singles, then the tandems of Rett Baker and Henri Abrams, and Darryl Davidson and Geoffrey Martin took home the doubles crowns.

Friday’s win catapulted Thomasville to its second straight final four – a first feat in school history.

The Lady ‘Dogs played in a much tighter match to open the afternoon.

After Anna Walter cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, Screven came back to win No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.

THS tied it up then won in No. 1 doubles when Abby Walter and Anna Wing won back-to-back sets to secure the come-from-behind victory that halted Screven’s Final Four streak.

As was the case for the semifinals, a coin toss will determine whether Thomasville or Westminster will host the next round.

Westminster’s teams are the defending state champions.
