Syrupmakers coach reflects on 'good football season'

THOMASVILLE — Another year, another successful season for the Cairo Syrupmakers.

The Syrupmakers won at least nine games for the seventh straight season. They won a region championship for the third straight year, extending their consecutive region game-winning streak to 23 in the process. Cairo also advanced to the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

“I think we had a good football season,” Cairo coach Tom Fallaw said. “They're not always going to end the way you want to, but I do think that our kids believed in what we said and what we always try to do, and that is win region and play a little bit in the playoffs. I think this team did this and probably over-exceeded some of the expectations that people had.

“We did have a chance to win in the second round, a 3-0 overtime game (against Mary Persons). It was a good ball game. We just didn't make the plays we needed to make.”
