Central softball rewarded on all-region team

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central’s softball team won Region 1-AAAAA this season.

The Lady Jackets were rewarded by the region coaches on the all-area team.

Four Lady Jackets were named to the first team, including sophomore pitcher Erika Greek, who was voted as region pitcher of the year. Greek tallied a 17-11 record with an eye-popping 195 strikeouts in 173 innings.

Sophomore catcher Megan Shepherd was a first-team selection after batting .400 with 21 RBIs. Also chosen was junior centerfielder/infielder Savannah Morris. Morris batted .404 with 11 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Rounding out the first-team list was senior first baseman Jenna Reeves. Reeves was Central’s biggest offensive weapon with a .521 average, seven home runs and 44 RBIs.

Central’s second-team selections included sophomore third baseman/second baseman Emily Corbitt, junior shortstop Kendall Stanaland and junior outfielder Brooke Stanley.

Corbitt batted .373 and recorded a fielding percentage of .900. Stanaland tallied a .320 batting average and .911 fielding percentage. Stanley finished with a .350 average and .933 fielding percentage.

Greek, Morris and Reeves were also selected to the all-state team as second teamers. Robyn Trammell, who led Central to a 19-12-1 record and region title, was selected as region coach of the year.
